Sylvester,

Do you:
Still think that DDR is slower than SDRAM?
Still think that DDR is dead?
Still think that Anand's benchmarks are fraudulent?
Still think that most benchmarking sites on the web are run by irresponsible children?
Still think that bears are mentally ill?
Still think that bears are paid bashers?
Still think that bears are asses?
Still think that bears are shrills?
Still think that anyone cares about your DRDRAM fantasies?
Still think that Micron will be put out of business by Rambus?
Still think that DRDRAM is the future of DRAM?

You have been here a week, and have spread more discord and nonsense than anyone I have ever seen. Why don't you go away?

Scumbria

Re: Scumbria's desperation...."Why don't you go away?"

Looks like you have frustrated Scumbria. He is sounding desperate. He is not able to keep up with your argumentation and he is looking bad.
You should stay. <LOL>

The thread owes you a debt of gratitude!

Hi sylvester80; The reason why dual RSL channels in a single RIMM aren't being done:

(1) It would require an increase in the number of motherboard layers. You have to look at the artwork on a current i820 motherboard to appreciate this effect - two layers are completely used routing to and from the RIMM module.
(2) It increases the pincount of the RIMM by quite a large amount. You have to remember that the full RSL bus (and you would have to have separate RSL buses for the two channels for electrical timing reasons) has to hit the module pins twice, once to get on, and once to get off. [This is largely why RIMMs have as many pins as DDR DIMMs, even though RDRAM has fewer data pins in the channel.]
(3) Because of the wider bus, it would be even harder to match RSL channel wire lengths than it already is. Most of the space to route RSL channels around is not spent in straight wires carrying signals. Instead, most of the space is spent in either ground traces, intestine like loopings to match signal lengths, or in tabs and vias to match electrical trace properties.

The heat issues that Scumbria is talking about would not apply to a x2 RSL channel. I think he is just teasing you about the x8 RSL version.
