A question for you. Do you think that double data rate synchronous DRAM is slower than single data rate synchronous DRAM? Do the names of the devices give a clue?
(I saw a whole series of posts to that effect).
There may be beta platforms where DDR is slower than SDR in some benchmarks, but it's not a measure of the capability of the devices, but of the capabilities of the platforms. Even then, as scumbria points out, there are benchmarks on which the PIII will outperform Athlon, regardless of the memory type. And we've yet to see a PIII/DDR system to get a real DDR/SDRAM comparison..
And so far we haven't seen one benchmark from a manufacturer. Let's wait till we see something on production systems.
That said, I still look for SDRAM to get ~80% share in 2001. <VBG>
