I see what you mean about the article. It only
references the 256k version.

Regardless, 512k 1M and 2M are designed into 4way systems.
The 256k has only on-die cache and is cheaper. The
other versions have L2 cache on a back-side bus which
runs at 1/2 or full speed of core CPU speed but I believe
now runs at a fraction cause it tops out ~350Mhz.

I'll ask around tomorrow to some of my lunch buddies
to see if any 550-700Mhz price
reductions have just happened or are in the works.
