Godel's theorem. This was an important event in mathmatics. There was a signifigant, perhaps even a majority, of serious mathematicians who beleived that math was God's blueprint of the universe, and morality, and everything else. Godel's theorem was a major blow and caused many talented scholars to leave the field in disappointment.
