Bush Snubs Christian Coalition
CNSNews.com
Thursday, Sept. 28, 2000
George W. Bush's presidential campaign is defending its decision not to have Bush speak at the Christian Coalition's annual convention this weekend in Washington.
Bush will be the first Republican presidential nominee to bypass the group's annual get-together since the group was founded 11 years ago.

In explaining the decision, Mindy Tucker, spokeswoman for the Bush campaign, asked rhetorically: "Is it better for the governor to be in Washington, D.C., or is it better for him to be in the battleground states of Wisconsin and Michigan? It's better for him to be in Wisconsin and Michigan. I'm sure that played into the decision."

Bush did speak at the coalition's conference last year, while he was battling for the GOP nomination.

Christian Coalition Chairman Pat Robertson called Bush's move "very risky."
