Elmer, first of all so as to add to this discussion, I believe INTC is a wonderful log-term buy at these levels. The stock has crashed well over 40% on earnings concerns which are mild and I believe temporary, related to the crash of the Euro. As some of my colleagues and I have recently stated, panics are often overdone, and are a wonderful opportunity to enter the markets with fare less relative risk.

I would state that I agree with you on the issue of moderated threads. I have sent several notes to SI Admin expressing my astonishment and absolute opposition to introduction of censorship practices at this site. SI was always a haven for free, and often intelligent, speech. Sadly, with the SI decision on moderation in April, the luster of an open forum at SI has been tarnished.

Regards,

Olivier L. F. Asser

I have a fundamental dislike for censorship and that's why I have refused to participate in the AMD moderated thread.

I agree will you. But I personally make a distinction between preventing another person from speaking in general, and preventing another person from speaking to one's self. After all, if someone tried to disrupt a political forum by using a software program to post millions of useless messages, wouldn't the be a threat to freedom of speech?

Freedom of speech really requires two protections. It requires that the speaker be allowed to speak, and that the listener be allowed to listen. Isn't that the reason why most people here don't waste time on Yahoo?

Elmer-

Does this story make sense? I heard that Intel was thinking of making some chipsets in Tiawan. But if they want to use 0.13 on copper, wouldn't only a CPU generate the required return? If Intel really considering out sourcing CPU production? Is this some way to further muscle out AMD chipsets and other competitive parts? or is Intel hedging their bets on their own transition to 0.13 and copper?

Our understanding is that Morris Chang, its CEO, has been in recent head-to-head talks with the CEO of Intel, Craig Barrett.

Those wide ranging discussions cover a variety of semiconductor processes, including making chipsets, employing its 12-inch wafer plant, using its .13 micron technology and its copper wire interconnects, plans which are well advanced.
