Maybe the reason KOPN is not pre-announcing is they were not responsible for handing out the 7 cent figure as one poster previously alluded.

another reason may simply be that the analyst is wrong.

onward,

In fact, as far as I know, pre-announcement aren't mandatory (ie law), either way (upside or down). Big misses are more appropriate for using them, where values are very skewed from concensus.

KOPN is within a range of 5-7, or 6-7 cents concensus from either Zacks or First call.

I would consider it bad if they come under the lowest estimate number, so I would consider a pre-announcement appropriate.

Ted, Dr. Fan gave guidance last quarter that 3rd quarter would be flat or slightly down (I can't remember what his exact words were but they indicated caution for third quarter). He went on to project a good fourth quarter for KOPN. I think, as the CEO says, we will see a continuation of their growth in the 4th quarter.

I guess his guidance last quarter took the place of a pre-announcement. I had forgotten his guidance and was getting (and am) real annoyed by the stock's decline.
