I am not going to address all these comments about increasing production for optical components, etc. No industry is bullet proof against slowing down. However, I do want to urge readers to understand WHY there is so much concern right now in chip/chip equipment land, and why it's spilling over to opticals (in some senses).

Read this article about the SSB call, in THE leading Electronics Magazine. Look at that graph in the middle of the article. For the last 4 cycles, Semiconductor cycles are mostly defined by excess capacity rather than by a fall-off in demand. All of the capex cycle highs are nicely lined up with peak in CHIP shipments!!

Do we know that this is going to happen again? Nope, that's the bet. But the curve are looking toppy now, and that's why they made the call.

You can read what you want into this. I just bring it to this thread for discussion.
