Darbes,

The IDE Plextors work very well...SCSI may not be what you need.

DRBES - My experience is that CDR Win is an excellent disk backup program. I believe a trial version is available for free. I've heard that Nero is also excellent, altho I don't have personal experience with it since it is incompatible with my (HP) cdrw drive. Hope this helps.

yes Drebes, I agree with Jim that IDE would work as well. The problem with non-burnproof ide cdroms is that once the buffer is empty due to the CPU doing some other task, a bad burn occurs. However burnproof allows the buffer to be empty while it waits for the CPU to supply more data. So really SCSI will not help you that much in that regard. However I heard the SCSI version has a lot of other improvements so you may want to wait. The best backup software is uh, CLONECD. It does not support all cd-rs and cd-roms but basicially it can make a duplicate of any cd, protected or not. It copies the raw data and will defeat almost all protection schemes. Also BURN PROOF helps defeat protections because when you're copying a protected cd, when it reaches the protected part, the cd-r can't read any data and a buffer underrun occurs. However with Plextor it just goes right through the protection. Now that's just a FYI, piracy is still bad :) Oh and CDRWIN is good too, it's very easy to burn bin files with CDRWIN. My personal favorite for general purpose burning is Nero. It is superior to Adaptec Easy Creator. Hope that helps, Paul.

EDIT: Here is a link to the info about the new SCSI plextor

It seems better but quite expensive, $380 bucks in Japan.
