scott...re: "high oil prices will spur development of alternative fuel sources"

this was the reason the doe was created.....but yet no alternative sources have been developed or sustained over the last thirty years....from the esoteric work at princeton plasma physic labs, or the thomas jefferson electron beam accelerator facility, the cancelled texas super collider....the oil laden sands of the plain states, hydrogen generators, methanol, sasoil from south africa, even windmills and solar,on and on and on.....

doubtful an alternative source will ever evolve as removal of oil from the good earth is still very inexpensive.....if federal air pollution standards were relaxed even in a minimum fashion it would open up many sources such as coal, lignite, even trash, to compete with and bring down the cost of imported oil...

investment in alternative energy companies has been risky and few, if any, have returned long term gains.

just look to the past for the answers to the future....

good luck...ed a.
