This weekend, I tried to follow Archimedes' advice and shop for bullion coins locally rather than on the Internet. With a single exception, the coin shops were all 1) located in a corner of a bombed-out looking strip mall 2) sharing a building with a Mexican grocery or Salvation Army outlet, or 3) in a prefab building with a gravel driveway It was quite an eye-opening experience. The brokers of this asset class appear to be in the depths of their own Great Depression. I felt like a true contrarian.
