The issue is NOT that LU or CSCO misunderstand what is happening......it's just that CSCO (more than LU) does NOT have the wherewithal to upgrade in SUCCESSION (great name which highlights CSCO's problem).

It doesn't matter if you know your weakness if you don't have a solution.......a major Carrier who's spent countless billions on their current network isn't going to hand-over a general contract to upgrade & manage their network to a company like CSCO. If the Carrier chooses to design & manage their own network, CSCO will get a sale here & there as part of the Carrier's overall buildout plan but as I argued many times, I think the trend will be more likely to hand over significant (if not all) of the upgrade to ONE vendor for many reasons -- time to market being one of the main ones along with cost factor.
