You don't stay a superpower by gutting the military. There are still many threats to the security of this nation and its allies. Iraq, Iran, N. Korea to name a few. Sure we can kick their asses, if we stay prepared to do so. JLA

Do you work on machines that are 40 or 50 years old? I wonder if the janitor has equipment that old that he has to clean at the hospital. Some servicemembers routinely operate equipment that is much older than I am. We are still ahead technologically, but without replenishment, it won't be long before others catch up.knc

<<However, the Cold War is now over. Only one superpower left. That's us. But still the Pentagon says it needs billions more. Nonsense.>>

Some superpower. We have ships that can't go to sea, battalions that can't be mobilized and we are about out of the cruise missiles that Clinton so loves to shoot.

flapjack - Not including the US there are four declared nuclear powers plus three or more nations with some degree of nuclear capability. You may not call them superpowers but each of them has more nuclear warheads than the US had at the beginning of World War II. Together they have about 24,000 warheads. It took only two to win WW II!
