What was the price of gold in 1971? What was the price of gold in 1980? I think, "Why is a shiny metal object with very few practical uses worth $271 per ounce? Why not $100? Or $35?"

Answer to the first question below (search on bigcharts.com for "Gold afternoon fix" if you want to play with dates/axes):

That looks like a chart of a real p.o.s.! Oh, and I had some XAU calls last year that turned out quite nicely with that little central bank announcement, so I'm not against the thing as a trading vehicle.

A better question is, why should the dollar stay strong?

chic,

Answering a question with a question is never better! <g>

Besides I have never commented on the state of the dollar....its you that has.....so again I ask why you think the dollar is going down for the count.
