Freeus, one could extrapolate a bit from that and say that we should stop producing medicine, since it encourages those with inferior defensive genes to live. A bit extreme, I would think, but logical. Coldly logical. Is it good to feel responsible for one's own actions? Probably. But is the goal of society to make everyone feel responsible for their own actions? Or does it have more to do with making things better, whatever those things are? Perhaps the standard we should apply is how we treat friends and family. If you can look at your son or daughter and say, "I know you are starving, but it is good for you and good for society," then you should say that to everyone with comfort.

On a lighter note, you did remind me of a favorite line from the late Sam Kinison. "We have deserts in America -- we just don't live there."

Cordially,
