Darrell - the description of DELL as a fast follower is from the lips of Mike Lambert a few weeks ago, not anything I made up. There's nothing wrong with that, it is a great business model. It allows DELL to produce competitive products on a 1.5% R&D budget.

DELL's growth rate comes from their excellent selection of what products to market - again, a benefit of the "fast follower" model, since they let others validate the market and then use their business efficency to skim the cream.

But the notion that CPQ is likely to have taken any product ideas from DELL is silly, when DELL's proclaimed business model is to do the opposite.

darrell...."fast follower" was a very popular and desirable tag placed on dell by many of the thread zealots....had an earful of such verbage last year!....believe it is what made them great....but with no one left to follow, they are left to their own devices????
