Rarebird: (Here I am again, uninvited.) It's IN SPITE OF government, not BECAUSE of government that your economy has prospered.

Do you think the Bill Gates types asked Bill Clinton or Al Gore if they could set the world on fire?

If one can credit Gore with anything, it's with the ability to think on his feet. When Bush suggested that the economy has prospered because of all the hard-working and industrious Americans, not because of government, Gore found his composure and stammered, "Yes, I agree. It's because of all the hard-working Americans that this economy has prospered."

You can bet Gore would have had his party taking credit where credit wasn't due if Bush hadn't called him on it.

Bill Gates has done more to revolutionize the world and stimulate commerce than the Clinton regime could EVER hope to do.

Again, with all due respect.

I thought Bush did fine. He made his points and contrasted his vision from Gore very clearly. Gore is a little better debater; but that's really irrelevant here in winning the undecided vote.

I'm sitting here watching the debate a second time and would agree with that assessment. Bush did well when he spoke passionately on education, oil and budget issues (tax cuts, social security). He did poorly on the Milosevic question and the abortion/judges question. Gore was much more consistent and eloquent.

Didn't you think Gore came through as the little rich kid who wanted to be the smartest? He was very condescendent by sighing, interrupting, making childish, immature faces, etc.. Bush is in a class above.
