RE:"But Clinton didn't overthrow Papa Doc. The guy he overthrew was no picnic, but clearly better than the one Clinton installed, who is basically the leader of murderous street mob. He was a darling of the congressional black caucus and the Hollywood left. (his name escapes me at the moment)"

Yes Aristide...

I remember when the guy fled to Washington. When taxpayers cleaned up Haiti enough for him to go back to Haiti, he had to think long and hard about it, he literally had to be forced to go back...you see, from what I read, he was receiving about $400k a year in "donations" from the sources you mentioned.
He had the good life...

Jim

Joe,

You are right, Papa Doc was gone in the 70's, Baby Doc was gone in '86. Those guys were charming. Aristide (a priest) was elected (sort of a distinction) in 1990, and immediately overthrown by the military. Clinton and the UN helped to return him to power in '94. No matter how you look at it, Haiti has been and is now a shame on the America's. The poorest country in the hemisphere, folks very literally starving to death. I've been there, I've seen it.

I REALLY don't want to be drawn into a political debate, but you could argue that Papa Bush's end game against Saddam Hussein wasn't all that effective, see the current situation.

I'm a political agnostic, I'm not on either side. Both sides have failed adventures.
