The political calculation to let sleeping dogs lie is very different from repudiation. Starr went into the matter of Monica in an attempt to crack the White House cover- up apparatus, especially Jordan. He made no real headway, but was left with the facts of the case, which involved perjury, obstruction, and defrauding the court. The line of questioning that Clinton was subjected to was legal under rules of discovery (in harassment suits) that Clinton had himself signed. Surely you do not want to say that one can lie with impunity in divorce and harassment cases! Thus, Clinton was caught not only breaking the law, but violating his oath of office. He had to be impeached.........
