SANTA ANA, Calif., Oct. 4 /PRNewswire/ via NewsEdge Corporation -
Simple Technology (Nasdaq: STEC) today announced its entrance into the embedded mass data storage market with the introduction of its Solid-State Flash Disk Module(TM) products. "Our entry into the embedded storage market will allow us to benefit from a growing digital electronics market with a product equivalent to a hard disk drive," said Mark Moshayedi, COO, Simple Technology. "This family of products is becoming a complementary choice for several growing areas of the market, such as telecommunications, networking, and Internet appliance solutions," Mark added.
Simple Technology's Flash Disk Module offers a transparent design, replacing or augmenting conventional IDE hard disk drives by leveraging from a miniature module footprint that allows these products to be used as components in the embedded systems. Specifically, the product line is available in 40 pin (100 mil spacing) addressing similar functionality to 2.5" hard disk drive, 44 pin (2mm spacing) addressing similar functionality to 3.5" disk drives and standard 144 pin SoDIMMs. The product line is intended to plug directly into the existing IDE connector style and does not require any modification to the software at the operating system or drivers, given that it fully adheres to the ATA/IDE standard. The capacity offerings go up to 1Gbyte in storage space. The performance of the solution at 3Mbytes/sec access time does not compromise the inherent solid-state low power characteristic of the devices. The reliability parameter of 2.5 Million MTBF assures high quality in the highest capacities of this product family. The low profile height of the device assures ease of use in any mechanically constrained system design.
"Specifically, we are positioning this family of products as an answer to the increasing storage demand of embedded systems with small footprint/high capacity needs. The increase in capacity offered does not compromise low power consumption, performance, compatibility and reliability of the solution offered," said Jeanclaude Toma, VP of Marketing and Business Development for Simple Technology.
The Flash Disk Module can additionally be used for a broad range of applications including set-up boxes, network computers, PDAs, cellular telephones, MP3 Players, digital cameras, thin client systems, and other digital handheld devices. Other applications include medical and industrial applications such as global positioning systems and industrial measurement devices.
The Product line is currently available through Simple Technology's OEM Division, Silicontech (www.silicontech.com).
