Greg, I started to buy in to the "conspiracy theory" a bit after reading the "Electronic Day Trader" by Friedfertig and West. It paints a picture of the market maker as a pretty deceptive human being. I don't know how much truth there is to this in the grand scheme of things, but I can certainly understand how people come to distrust the market as a whole. Heck, John Bogle, the founder of Vanguard, talked about the sleezy nature of the markets on CNBC this AM.
