Same could be said about Clinton. It is his personal life that was pryed open with brutishness.
Bush does not have a long history of success. His success (debatable) is small change compared to that of Gore.
If Bush was alcoholic or cokehead big time, what are the chances that there will not be a relapse under pressures of the job? See these are the issues that democrats are giving Bush the leeway that was not given to Bill Clinton. But I do expect that there will be people who will start focussing on his past with a vigor if he gets elected. Republicans have instituted a trend against sitting president. Expect that to continue under democrats as well.
