Hey VENKster,

I realize that your comment was a bit tongue in cheek, but you hit on something I've been seeing on the threads I read. Being successful at timing does not mean getting in at the absolute bottom & getting out at the absolute top. ME thinks that if you can consistently get in close the bottom & get out close to the top you belong in the Market Timers hall of fame.

Sounds like you could be eligible if you keep your streak going VENKIE :-) Heck, you got some stuff at great near term prices & still have powder for more in case there is more selling to come. I'm impressed.

I think I got some bargains too, but I'm not as savvy at picking tops & bottoms. I feel we are close enough to the bottom in here, all things being equal. However, my weakness, as I see it, is that I don't sell near the top often enough..... OOF :-| I keep my eye on the FA side & seem to refuse to see the TA breaking down & sink with the ship too often :-( This is something I plan on improving here dramatically going forward.

It seems to me that some folks struggle with this thinking to their detriment; that is, trying too hard to time the absolute bottom & top.

I think that if you can consistently make your buys reasonably near the lows & sell reasonably near the tops in this volatile market, with preserving you capital as your main priority, you will be quite successful.

I'm working on my 3rd fortune, having lost the first two to hard/bone headed LTB&H strategy mixed with some short term trading...... & margin as part of the strategy. FWIW, I believe that LTB&H is the best strategy from an historical basis..... but not recently..... particularly with margin.

BTW, RR is absolutely right about getting off debt. Absolutely, positively beyond a shadow of a doubt right. Becoming debt free & limiting my use of margin are my main priorities going forward.

OK, I'm done ramblin' about the market/investment philosophies.

I'm going to be out of pocket for a while. My sister is in town, from Mobile with her kids. Going to be grilling some salmon steaks & fillet mignon, etc., for mom, my sisters, nieces, nephews & the better half ;-)

Have a good evening everyone.
