Actually, I think that I may actually like this...

It means no new infrastructure issues through Q4.
Durons through 800, Athlons at 900, 1000, 1100, 1200.
Should Intel produce anything, they can release 1300, 1400, even 1500 easily, dropping them into existing boards.

Sounds like a recipe for $$$ in Q4. It will certainly make the big OEMs using AMD happy-- no need to qualify Mustang or 266 FSB solutions during the busy Q4 season.

I can see some downside, I guess, but not much, besides perceptions, perhaps.

Question: Do we still expect 200 MHz DDR out in november? (Even in 266 is pushed out until Q1) Does the 760 get us that? This would be good for improving bandwidth for benchmark comps assuming the P4 makes it out by end November.

comments?

Doug

Reason for today's drop-Micron to add Athlon PC's?

Re: Haven't seen this posted yet ... if this is true I don't think I like it:

aburner,

I would take that as good news. As long as AMD can increase profits and market share why should they push the Mhz envelope? I think AMD is wise to put the big guns away until needed.

aburner:

"So, in the meanwhile AMD decided not to speed up the natural course of events. However, the company doesn’t have any concerns about the CPUs manufacturing supporting up to 1.5GHz that’s why these plans can be revised and changed any time, so please, take note of it."

Comment: I love it...Reading between the lines, they are comfortable with market response to current offerings and will build a MHz arsenal in the meantime to counter any new INTC developments if/when they transpire...Sounds to me like AMD is now competing from a position of phenomenal(?) strength!!!

ABurner, Re: if this is true I don't think I like it:

Forget about iXBT Labs. They edited one of my posts here where I said that I guessed we would see 1.2 GHz on August 15th or even a week before and put it on their homepage as a fact (they deleted the "I guess"). If all their "sources" are that reliable don't take their news seriously. AMD has repeatedly stated that we would see 1.5 GHz in Q1 and Mustang this year. I don't think that this has changed.
