Hi Tim,

this market is probably not going to crash.... I don't see that happening right now. I have started taking positions (long) but at the same time I am shorting stocks. I would quit shorting this rally as long as it is not a V shaped recovery in the selected high fliers. Most stocks have been already punished really hard.

Hi Tim,

I am not looking for a crash either, but it will be difficult for the COMPX not test the 3100 level given the technical damage that has been done. Given the guidance from JBL and CS so far, I don't expect an implosion in demand, just a cyclical weakness. Q4/Q1 is still the strongest Q for the telecom equipment vendors. Even with slower demand, equipment that increase efficiency on the backbone will still be in demand. The last mile becomes a bit more questionable as we have seen with the slower deployment of DSL and cable modems as retail customers scale back. Companies that sell solutions to manage the bandwidth for greater efficiency should still do well.

No doing much on the trading front. A lack of time prevented my from doing as much research as I would like so I never did deploy my trading capital in a big way after my break in August and I am leaving for London at the end of this month. I started investment positions in ASYS and ADCT. One year to 18 month trading positions in KOPN and HEII. I have short term trading positions in CMTN and KOPN (under water big time and flat). This is a market that requires a lot of concentration and I just don't have the time right now.

At this point I would watch to see when AMCC and TXCC break as they have been amazingly strong. When they break we should closer to a bottom.

Tim,

This is one ugly chart. No support till 3200 with a possible move to 3040 possible. We also don't break the down trend till we cross 3580.

stockcharts.com

On the plus side the T's (percent of stocks one STD below their 200 day SMA) that I track are starting look healthier. We still have some downside to go till all the excess are out of the market, but at least we are closer to forming a bottom.
