well, that shouldn't be that much of a mystery... market makers really don't fill that "market maker" function they did in the old days...you know, the one that was to provide an "orderly market". in a stock like MRVC, they don't want to be stuck holding inventory, so they typically have a seller before they give up shares to a buyer. very rarely will they take much stock into inventory to provide stability. that's just the way it is.
also, people tend to panic on the way down FAR more than they do on the way up. that's understandable. if you miss it going up, you find another opportunity; if a stock is going down (which you're long), you're more likely to panic (especially, if you're on margin!)
