How long you think he practiced this move?

The moment seemed emblematic of the evening. Both candidates strode out looking like big attractive men in big attractive suits, and shook hands, and Mr. Gore seemed to whisper something to George W. Bush, who seemed to nod agreement; then Mr. Gore, still clasping Mr. Bush's hand, subtly pushed him back half a step. Like a dominant personality. Like an unattractive dominant personality. Like a man who read Michael Korda's "Power!" and decided to put his desk up on a little three-inch platform so he'd always be looking down at others sitting in the office. Mr. Gore was trying to intimidate physically, which is what Bill Clinton did to Bob Dole in the debates of 1996.

Rambi,

Gore's performance during the debate was appalling.

And my gut reaction was to (and in fact I did) avert my eyes from him while he gesticulated for the cameras. I felt as though he was "exposing himself" verbally as an adolescent would do in the locker room once he had finally developed just beyond puberty.

Yes, he wants everyone to know "who he really is" ....the fact that he even RAISES this notion after being in the public eye nearly his entire life is telling.

Do we really want a person still "finding himself" to be the leader of the free world?

And having raised ONE son I know extremely well the adolescent behavior you so well describe. He outgrew it too, but I'm not sure it was because of luck.
