Kash Re...<<I think there I generally agree with you on the problems.

But the real problems do not get solved with vouchers.<<

Kash, I fully agree that putting ones kids in a private school will not solve the problems of the old school. But as I see it, the public schools nowadays are asked to do much more than teach kids who want to learn. In a earlier post you ask me Are u proposing that going to high school be voluntary.
What would u propose we do with 9 graders on who dont wish to study<<
This mentality is exactly what I am talking about. The parents demand the school accept Johnny even if Johnny doesn't want to go primarily because the parents don't know what to do with Johnny. We demand the schools educate Johnny even if Johnny doesn't want to learn. That is an impossible task , but when the school fails to educate Johnny, its the teachers fault. Meanwhile Johnny is sitting in class, and because he is bored,he is disruptive. I say that the public school's basic job is to educate the students, not be a babysitter for someones troubled child; the school shouldn't be used for racial experiments; If a low income school needs more money, fax them money, not bus school kids all over h*ll just to meet a racial quota. We need to get back to the basics. Schools are for educating our kids, period. As far as your financial incentives, the purview of these programs should be the responsibility of the Social services adm., not the schools.
