Motorola said the system is the first personal communications services (PCS) CDMA cellular network available to customers in the South American country and will cover the area between the capital city of Montevideo and Punta del Este. Wireless carrier BCP Vice President Michel Levy said the forecast for delivery of the terminals from the manufacturers was once again postponed. ‘‘Our network is already ready there and has been for some time, but the (handset) manufacturers are later by at least six months,’’ Levy said. Carlos Roberto Boschetti, technology vice-president of the operator, said he does not have knowledge on a possible change of network technology from TDMA to CDMA by BellSouth, a 44.5-percent shareholder of BCP. It would not ‘‘make sense because the tendency is of convergence of TDMA, CDMA and GSM,’’ Boschetti said.
