"Latch up" used to be very common in CMOS circuits. As a consequence modern CMOS circuits have an circuitry to prevent latchup. I am not aware of any patents on this circuitry but that does not mean there are not some.

The rest of your post is confusing to me.<G> I have no idea whom Infineon has licensed or cross licensed or what the terms of licensing might be. I do not know if Infineon assertion of infringement is even correct. Also, I do not know for a fact whether Infineon cross licensed Rambus as a condition of their own RDRAM license.

If RDRAM designs are using Infineon IP and it is not properly licensed then Infineon can demand royalties from companies producing the RDRAM. No question about it.
Of course, their circuit can also be designed out of the RDRAM (if it is actually in there).

:)
