Steven, Here are some quick comparisons of NOPT with JDSU, CIEN and NT but JDSU isn't in the same industry. NOPT,CIEN and NT's industry is: Processing Systems & Products. JDSU's industry is: Diversified Electronics. These comparisons come from Moneycentral. NOPT JDSU CIEN NT Total Sales... 10M 1,430M 713M 26,529M Total Income... -33M -905M 60M -1,036M Sales Growth... 287.50% 405.80% 67.70% 43.90% PE.... No Earnings No Earnings 525.30 No Earnings Obviously NOPT is a much smaller company than any of these so I am not sure how fair the comparisons are. However, I did scan through the last prospectus to provide some additional data concerning NOPT. Revenues +556% Customer base increased from 12 to 33 Doubled sales force Order Backlog +68% Opened 43 POP's Deployed DWDM along entire backbone Opened Network Operating Center Signed agreements with 2 largest electric utilities in the US in Q4 '99 dramatically expanding service territory. These contracts added 9,000 fiber miles. Footprint now stands at 80,000 fibermiles. and NOPT has capability to expand to just about any utility right of way from Portland Maine to Washington DC. Expect to complete construction of expanded backbone (1400 route-miles) by autumn '00. It will be cabable of serving more than 30M people and 1M businesses from Maine to Washington passing over 1000 POP's, tandem switches and central offices Customers include: MCI, Sprint & AT&T (Bell Atlantic, GTE-now Verizon[VZ]) I bought NOPT a long time ago because I believed then as I do now that bandwidth is and will continue to be a high growth area. NOPT to me represents a small company with huge growth potential at a price that I can afford. In addition, management has performed very well up to this point and I have no reason to believe that won't continue - despite the recent reorganization. The float is small at 5.80M which causes additional volatility. Hope this information helps.
