All excellent points. We shall see.

I think Jobs would want to transition as quickly as possible to the new OS in order to retire support for the old OS as quickly as possible. That would mean a sudden and perhaps somewhat painful immersion. SKUs, shrink wraps, no BTO option for OS 9 only. OS 9 will have to be there with OS X.

The pain is going to be in the software Jones' trying to catch up. Once you dedicate the hard drive space to OS X, you want to use it. Programs that require switching to OS 9 will quickly fade from the market and from those hard drives.

The drivers I'm talking about are the 3rd party drivers for such things as the HP printers, scanners and what-not from a multitude of USB and Firewire device vendors. These are being readied for release, but some may be slower than Apple to the party.

I expect, right or wrong, for it all to take place with MacWorld SF in January. I expect the timing to deliberately serve as a catalyst to 2nd quarter sales momentum.

Meanwhile, back in the stock market, there is much to happen before then.
