I suppose people lie for various reasons....some might even do it in what they think is in the interest of others. Some might lie to protect a loved one or a friend. In Gores case, I think it is purely selfish.....he wants the "Big Job" and it nothing else matters. Subliminal he's not.

Oh hell, I think we all know that people lie... or exaggerate the facts.

But with Clinton/Gore, it has been lie, deny, lie some more in order to cover up the first lie... deny...

And that's what got Nixon in hot water... He originally new NOTHING about Watergate (it was a John Dean operation), but when he found out, he was unwilling to just raise hell and fire his people. Instead, he covered it up and got himself in trouble.

And there is LITTLE difference between Nixon in Watergate and Gore and Chinagate... Unless, that is, Gore actually knew the money was being laundered from the Chinese...

But there isn't any proof of that. Maybe one of those 120 potential witnesses, or subjects of investigation, who fled the country might know...

Btw, Bush uttered the "read my lips" pledge with all intent of keeping it... But then he was trying to get a budget passed and the democratic congress included new taxes. Bush had to make a political compromise or shut the government down, and he paid a terrible price for that gaffe.

Let's just not forget that he could have shut the government down had it push the issue... and generally presidents when those kinds of battles with congress.

Regards,

Ron
