<<We will eventually run out of oil so we need to start looking for alternatives now. >>

I have no problem there.

<<The problem won't be solved by locating more oil, the crisis will just be pushed a sort distance into the future.>>

No, it won't be solved but, but we can continue to live on our reserves until new energy sources are workable. Continue to live is important.

Bush proposed spending a few billion, and I live in Dirksen land " A billion here, a billion there and soon you are talking real money", on making high sulphur coal non polluting. We have 100 years worth of high sulphur coal laying around, can't burn it. You want electric cars? No oil consumption? We need to learn how to burn that coal without killing the enviroment. Bush has a plan.

Re running out of oil ...

Back during the days of the Embargo, I remember seeing a reprint of an article published in Time magazine predicting that the world would run out of oil within 8 years.

The article was written in 1934.

We have plenty of oil.

It's not just oil, Partricia. Our nation should pay attention to the loss of topsoil as something other than a cowboy riding a well-paved trail in a hurry to get to the White House. No dust on George W. spurs! Still the topsoil disappears. He don't know, he don't care.

He doesn't have to.

He thinks he can get elected 'cause he can hang his hat on his grin. (LOL)

Anyway...

Looks like it became necessary for Gore to shift into negative territory as response to Bush's GOPwinger embellishment assaults.

But they'll be a difference. The difference between what GOPwingers allege Gore has said--i.e., Bush twisting Gore statements out of proportion--and what Bush actually has spoken, will be noteworthy. Bush's statements won't leave any interpretation. They won't look good, but they'll be what he actually says. Hard to hide from that.

It'll show that Bush may like to dress himself in Gore's Lies, however he's about to get completely undressed with his own past statements, many of which we'll see from Gore's brand new negative counterattack.

Hang on to your seats, folks. We're gonna be writing about new stuff soon, approaching the stretch.

>>We need to stop using 1/2 to 3/4's of the earth's fossil fuels for ourselves. <<

We use it because we feed the world and supply them with goods and services. Are you for starving 3rd world children?

We need to stop using 1/2 to 3/4's of the earth's fossil fuels for ourselves

I wholeheartedly agree. The question then is, do we allow one person to force us to change overnight or is there to be a give and take between Washington and Main Street on what is reasonable and what works for both us and the environment?

PCT, Since you feel "we" should start looking for alternative fuels now, I would suggest that you get busy, instead of dilly-dallying around here. Or, perhaps, are you expecting someone to do it for you?? ~H~
