Jim-- I was/am under the impression that there is about as much oil in the Central Asian nations (kazak, uzbek, etc.) as was in the Middle East as of one hundred years ago. How much time and money is being invested in getting operations going there? I was/am also under the impression that there is something like 100-150 years of not-difficult-to-extract oil left in the ground. Is this really a problem of not enough oil? Is it not OPEC pulling the trigger a little too fast and being overly conservative in release policies after the $10 per barrel prices of just a couple of years ago? Aren't they more loving today than they were in the 70s?

Jim,

re: "You'll hate higher taxes too...because if what you say is true...we're gonna have to ante-up..."

Where is the argument? Are the roads adequate, the airports, what about the brown-outs last summer, do we have an energy policy? This didn't happen overnight, this is the result of long ago decisions to cut taxes, make public industries private, and not invest in the infrastructure to handle future demand. All of the political spectrum has gone along with it, it's popular.

If we had paid along the way, it would be a lot less painful. Now it's close to the time when we need to catch up. And yes, it's going to cost a lot of money.
