Re: something like 100-150 years of not-difficult-to-extract oil left in the ground

I don't have it around anymore, but a few years ago I put together a simple Excel spreadsheet to estimate how long it would take, at present growth rates of fossil fuel use, to use up the oxygen in the Earth's atmosphere.

Depending on the growth rate used, the period varied between 150 and 450 years.

The thing is, it'll probably get kind of annoying long before the very last free oxygen molecule is is consumed - so how much of a cut in the percentage of oxygen you're willing to accept in your atmosphere may put a limit on fossil use even if we don't run out of fossil fuel.

RE:"I was/am under the impression that there is about as much oil in the Central Asian nations (kazak, uzbek, etc.) as was in the Middle East as of one hundred years ago. How much time and money is being invested in getting operations going there"

There and some big bad American oil companies are helping develop it. OTOH, who's to say those companies don't join the cartel?
