Michael,

I respect Cary a great deal and do not believe that that was one of his better posts, and I let him know. We all come to the political table with certain beliefs, biases and predispositions. Using media caricatures is not in line with fair and balanced discussion regarding the two candidtaes. That is all I would ask for. I do not believe this to be out of line. The least we could do is attempt to carry out intelligent, civil discourse, rather than name calling or overused media stereotypes.

You have had issues with me(and others) and I now have you on Ignore. Let's do this as seldom as possible. You like to take advantage of these situations for yourself- I have talked to many people via PM regarding this.

BTW, here is a nice tribute to your intellectual equal, quotes from the horses mouth so to speak.

Re: Brian:

I've been posting on the AMAT thread (a lot more in the past) for years. Brian has a long, long history of driving everyone off the thread whose opinion he disagreas with. He posts 20 times a day, and he is consistently nasty to anyone who posts anything that isn't ultrabullish.

I am seriously thinking about starting a moderated thread, where a diversity of opinion would be tolerated, and some minimum level of civility will be enforced.

I would welcome everyone to such a thread. My tentative rules would be:

1. when the news is all terrible, and the stock is going down month after month, bullish opinions will be encouraged, because they will help us figure out when the upturn will happen
2. when the news is all wonderful, and the stock is going up month after month, bearish opinions will be encouraged, because they will help us figure out when the stock will peak.
3. personal attacks and flames will not be tolerated.
4. posters are expected to be able to back up their opinions with logic, and back up their facts by posting sources, if asked to. If you can't do that, don't post it.

I'd like to know whether anyone else thinks there is a need for a moderated AMAT thread, and what they think of my suggested rules.

michael- OT-

By the standards of cyberspace, Brian's comments were utterly tame stuff- he simply noted he wondered about someone's "intellectual ability". And he gave a rationale what he said (would that I had received that much consideration when jerks like Tomasso and that Russian on the AMD thread made far more searing comments about me). And Cary was repeating a slur that even Democrats backed off of when it was demonstrated that Bush had marginally better grades at Yale than that towering intellect Albert Gore Jr. did at Harvard, and Cary felt no need to substantiate his accusation. I might note that Brian's comments were framed with a certain respect for Cary, shared by many on this thread including this poster. But I think Brian believed Cary made an uncharacteristically "less-than-sage" comment, and he let him know it in a direct but not nasty manner.

Finally, I'd note that great intellectual abilities are not a pre-requisite for an effective president. Whatever one may think of Ronald Reagan, he was no great intellectual, but while in the Oval Office he accomplished pretty much what he set out to do.
