Kat: My view of fiberoptics is that the "arms suppliers" were the best bet, so I bought Uniphase some years ago and the SDLI. Now (perhaps) they will be one. That is the best bet IMO.

Unlike wireless where I found a gorilla - Qualcomm - I have not found a gorilla in fiberoptics.

JDSU is a king IMO and SDLI was the prince - the combination cuts the list.

I have owned Nortel Networks for years. If fact I bought it along with Lucent when I first started looking at telecom equipment suppliers. Nortel has grown progressively stronger and its leadership in fiberoptic systems more pronounced. The reverse is the case with Lucent IMO.

Cisco has many strengths, but fiberoptics is still not quite one of them yet IMO.

Otherwise, Corning - but I do not own it.

Best.
