That to me is a much more interesting question than whether or not Gore has lied about relatively inconsequential details in his life. The lies acquire some importance beyond just being fibs. It is a question that most Democrats, myself included have not really considered.

Frank,

Maybe, this embellishing...I don't see as outright lying...is more serious than I thought. I know that when I have told stories, there are times when I embellish them...not unlike the fisherman with the fish. I never thought of it as a major character flaw.....but maybe I am in denial. <g>

Frank,

"There was at any rate little in AMD's comments to ease our concerns regarding PC demand."

The statement above which is found in the Merrill Lynch's updated report today is the key statement and says it all. It is the reason why AMD is not doing well today. AMD was supposed to be the white knight and it failed. They were hoping that Sanders would dispel the notion that PC sales are slowing.....and he couldn't because they are slowing. AMD is doing as well as its doing only because it took market share from Intel.

And as an Intel investor you need to know that slowing sales will most likely hurt Intel as much if not more than AMD because Intel is not well positioned in the PC chip business currently, and its diversification attempts are not at a place where large profits can be expected. Forget today's dead cat bounce...Intel can go lower.

As for chipset problems, yep, AMD has them but so what...its a micro issue and not a macro one, and it will be resolved. As for the lower ASPs, ASPs usually suffer when you are taking market share. The trick is to sell more to make up for the loss of the higher ASPs. AMD finessed that pretty well and only slightly disappointed in the revenue area. Unfortunately, analysts are not concerned with the corporate strategy but rather the bottom line, and lowered ASPs can hint at deeper problems...so analysts have to err on the side of caution.

The only concern I have with AMD's report are those identified by the Motley Fool....the receivable and inventory numbers went up....they need to be watched....they are important and could signal problems down the road.

I know you are harassing the mod thread because AMD longs have harassed the Intel thread...and there is the notion of an eye for eye, a tooth for a tooth, but the truth is is that we are all in the same boat, and fighting amongst ourselves in that boat only makes things more problematical.
