RE:"I am not crazy about criminalization of various vices, starting with sweet tooth, alcohol, tobacco and drugs (prescription and currently illegal drugs). They are all dangerous if used excessively, but so is sitting, walking, running, sleeping, being awake, working etc"

My point is that if cigarettes are so bad just ban them. If they were introduced today, they would never be allowed and would be labeled a drug delivery system.
They fact that they are allowed says something for peoples right to kill themselves but also plays into the hands of the lawyers who embellish themselves along the way.
In FL...the Lawyers got a $billion+, BTW.
The problem with the whole thing is that the cost to medicare in the last 30 days of life is extremely costly, if we didn't have to foot the bill then we would be seeing these state lawsuits.
OTOH, we have the fed governement subsidizing the tobacco farmer.
If the governemnt had cohon@es, cigarettes would be banned...or at the very least taxed out of existance.

Joe,

Please stop hiding behind sugar. There are some vices more dangerous to your health than others.....smoking is one of them, drugs and alcohol are another.

You haven't lived until you see someone in the last stages of enphezyma (sp?)....that pretty blue color around their extremities, toting an O2 bottle and riding around in a wheelchair. Lucked out and saw some patients with the disease when they did testing on my lungs in the pulmonary clinic.

And of course, there is always the joy of lung cancer. Yes, sugar puts on weight and that's not good but the dangers are not the same.
