No, the system is taking in surplus monies now, so there is no cut. The money has been going into the general fund as a result. The only way to enforce a lockbox in D.C. is to not put the money anywhere that the politicians can get there grubby little hands on it.knc

Lizzie, you call it what it is. Reforming the system by empowering the individual over the state by giving them a tax cut.

Tax cuts are not government spending money. The social security funds are currently part of the overall budget. And Democrats have fought for years to prevent it from being taken off budget. So this Whopper Al nonsense about "locked boxes" is simply rhetorical clinton-speak.

I wish someone would go back in the congressional records a few years ago and write down how many Democrats vs Republicans worked to keep social security on budget in order to create a false sense of limited deficits.

That would be very enlightening given the discussions surrounding social security today.
