Well, with you strict constructionist guys, you never know. Seems like old Ron was offering muskets, powderhorns and field kits. My interpretation is more, how should I say this, liberal??!!!

My argument ad absurdum was to demonstrate that all sorts of things can be justified under the strict constructionist view of the Constitution that you guys wouldn't want brought back. In many cases, I agree that we shouldn't use the sense the framers had which is why we have a Supreme Court - to help us make sense out the 18th century document. Weapons and abortion come to mind, though as X pointed out, the term abortion wasn't used until the late 1800's.

Gee, LG, the large caliber issue. A .458 Win Magnum round. That's getting up there - it isn't really a sporting weapon for anything smaller than a Cape Buffalo. .50 caliber? Well that's not a sporting arm anymore, but I suppose you could have one if you needed it in your collection, by permit, IMO. But how many of those do you want in your neighborhood being fired by the idiots I described in my range incidents? I think by the time you are up to .80 caliber (20 mm), you can pretty much say that you're out of small arms and into "cannon".

How large a caliber are you talking about, dude? And what kind of rate of fire do you want?
