The analysts yesterday were saying 6.5 million K7s for Q4 (from previous 7.2), not 5.5 million. I wonder if that's a typo on RWT?

On the plus side, FIC doing well may be due to Compaq using the AZ11 for socket A systems. I guess we'll know soon.

Cirrus <I'm not the kind to sell my shares right before an earnings report. If I did it would probably be done out of emotion rather than reason and that's not good.>

Come on Cirrus, it has nothing to do with the timing of the earnings report - it has to do with the fact that AMD has given NO GUIDANCE, and this is the first it gives in months for Q4 - WHICH HAS ALREADY STARTED!!! That is absolutely unnacceptable for a shareholder.

7.2M is not that many chips in comparison with Intel. They have done no support to boost demand vs Intel. If they drop it to 5.5M, they will lose market share in Q4 and AMD will likely crash further. Estimates may not be affected because ASP will still be OK depending on Duron/Athlon ratio.

There is no way anyone can sugarcoat this one, it's terrible IF true.

ESPECIALLY if 1 gig is ALL INTC has to offer all quarter and P4 isn't out for the Christmas rush.

Change my mind, please!

Dave

C:

I mentioned a few weeks back that AMD has channel issues that most do not see and that they will make their 3Q shipment targets and then guide Q4 down. It seems some others are now on that page as well.

<This is the fifth person (Chuck, 3 analysts, RWT) since yesterday afternoon to mention the 7.2M seven gen number may be too high.>

Cirruslvr, it is all a guessing game, I believe guidance of 7.2M still intact if not more, Dresden is ramping on schedule, no reason to believe it is not, further Dresden is cranking out high speed parts at will, it is just a matter of marking them as 850Mhz or 1.1 GHz, a lot of flexibilities.

Cirruslvr,

<This is the fifth person (Chuck, 3 analysts, RWT) since yesterday afternoon to mention the 7.2M seven gen number may be too high. >

I actually am in a somewhat different camp than these analysts. I do not expect K7 guidance to go down meaningfully, if at all. I think AMD will kill off K6 faster and move most of the K6 desktop sales to K7 this quarter. So, if anything I would expect K6 numbers to go down.

One long-shot: Dell goes AMD and AMD will keep the forecast or increase it. That would be the day!
