Well, I would like to concur based upon the inherent soundness of the logic involved. But we know the Mid-East is not driven by logic. If it were, Palestininan parents wouldn't be permitting their 9 and 12 year old sons to go out, throw rocks at armed soldiers, only to be shot dead. In a society that cherishes the concept of "martyrs', logic becomes an afterthought, and unexpected events constantly drive policy in mini-crisis after mini-crisis. And like a cornered tiger constantly being poked, prodded, and teased, when they lash out, woe to their tormenters..... As I've stated before, the Israelis have every international right to claim the West Bank as their own since it was territory that was conquered during war where they defended themselves against an aggressor (Jordan). And were they to take out the Palestininan infrastructure, who would be able to stop them? More implicit, who would be WILLING to stop them given Arabs disdain for Palestinians (who are, in part, descended from the ancient Philistines, which places this struggle in more historic light). But I will agree that China would have to transport their oil just as we do. But what if India opts to throw their hand in with the Chinese, or at least remain neutral to their vessels, while hostile to US prescence? That's the role I believe the Indians are putting themselves in a position to by their arm deals with the Russians. This deal includes a used aircraft carrier and hundreds of their most sophisticated tanks, AS WELL AS A LICENSE for the Indians to build them in India. If you watched George Bush last night, he was spot on about the issue of the "Ugly American" imposing our will around the world. The more we do this, the more other nations will seek to gain advantage on us, especially as we surpass them in economic capability and global market share. I really see over the next 10 years, other nations forming alliances to oppose our influence and economic power in order to buy themselves time to play "catch up". Regards, Ron
