Greg,

Watch nature, observe, understand and learn. The optimal solution comes when things are in balance. Be kind because all of us could be "lunch" in minutes and kindness makes the sorrows of life bearable, compassion lets us share that moment with others and diffuse it. Jim Henson found that out how close each of us is to "lunch". Our "superiority" is an illusion. Every creature on Earth faces suffering at some time or the other, and that it is our DUTY as fellow beasts to save everyone and everything from as much suffering as possible. Heck, even the bible says that!!

Job 35:11 Job 35 Job 35:10-12 who teaches more to us than to the beasts of the earth and makes us wiser than the birds of the air?'

Matthew 9:36 Matthew 9 Matthew 9:35-37 When he saw the crowds, he had compassion on them, because they were
harassed and helpless, like sheep without a shepherd.

So even if you don't believe it from your naturalist pagan fellow man, cosmicforce, who assures you it is true, you only have to look to the bible. See, I told you there was SOME good stuff in there if you dig hard enough.<g>

I suspect that Jesus may have made a little visit to the high countries to the East because of this funny attitude of his.

Compassion, it's not just a good idea it's the LAW!! Well, at least one of the Laws.

Just because.

There doesn't have to be a reason. If you say there does- then you have to look for the reason for the reason. Why God?

Silly.

Of course I think it's a nice way to live and it makes me happy- but mostly in 3d. Which is quite good enough for me. It's too hard to be nice all the time on the net.

There doesn't need to be a why. But I can understand that you are confused. I will try to feel compassion for you. It's difficult but I will view it as a challenge.

WHY??????

Because experience and logic have taught us that what goes around comes around, and that kind, decent, generous, compassionate, empathetic people tend to have more friends, nicer kids, and generally happier lives than assholes, even if the assholes often make more money. Sometimes we even get together in communities where most of us feel this way, which is really nice, until the assholes start showing up.

If I were to start a religion, it would have two commandments:

1. Don't be an asshole.
2. If you really feel that you have to be an asshole, don't be one every day. Take one day a week off and be very nice to everybody. See which days make you happier...

PS: I've used the word "asshole" six times in one post, and I'm wondering if I can get a reprimand from SI out of it. I've never had one. It is my secret sorrow.
