Vix was just above 40 during the april lows. I think there was a post on the IDEA or Market Direction thread about it last night.

In my laymans term it measures complacency as a low number and fear
as a high number.

In the lows of 2 years ago(sept 97 showed a 40 with a secondwave that
came in around Oct 6-8 that climaxed around 60.

This spike occurred as all the big cap MOMO's that were safe finally
brokedown./ In fact most dipped below 50 or 200 day moving averages
for a short 2-3 day dip.

The market recovered and didn't look back.
