cirruslvr,

re: <If TCWO's prices are correct, we'll see 900MHz in Gateway's $1299 system real soon. Looks like AMD's holiday push has begun.

EDIT - Now Computer Super Sale is also advertising 1GHz at the new pricing - $281!

Whoa ... what a difference a year makes. As most of us on this thread predicted, Thunderbirds will be occupying >=1GHz range by this year end (more probable would be >=900MHz). If Dell doesn't get into adopting AMD CPUs soon, watch out for its business to become fragile! And for Intel - the above AMD pricing spells serious trouble in all directions.

Cirruslvr,

<TCWO's pricing might be an indication we will see a 1.3GHz Athlon soon, at least I hope so if those prices are accurate. >

I think this may have to do with the delayed P4 ramp than anything else.

<I don't feel comfortable if the $492 price is correct for 1.2GHz and 1.2GHz is the top speed for Athlon (desktop) this year.>

I think we will not see 1.33 until mid-Novemeber or even late-November. So, there will be a month or so when AMD will not have any part over $500.

Chuck

P.S.: The upside is that, this price move should put enormous pressure on the guys focussed on corporate systems to add some AMD to the mix. How do you justify buying a 733 or 800MHz PIII for $1500 when they can get a 1.2G Athlon for $2000? Assuming the $1500/$2000 numbers I am guessing are representative of comparably equipped systems, it will at least make a lot of MIS types stop and think.

850MHz lasted two weeks at Gateway

900MHz is now in Gateway's $1299 system. When Gateway started using the Athlon nine months ago their $1299 system had a 600MHz Athlon in it.

No 1.2GHz sighting at Gateway's website yet.

System Before 10/2 10/2-10/7 10/8 10/16
$1299 800MHz 850MHz 850MHz 900MHz
$1599 900MHz 900MHz 1GHz 1GHz
$1999 1GHz 1GHz 1.1GHz 1.1GHz
$2499 1.1GHz 1.1GHz NA NA</Pre>

What do y'all think, will the 1GHz be in Gateway's "sweet spot" $1299 system this year?

AMD -> Providing GHz for the masses. (TM Cirruslvr)

EDIT - Oops, Goutama posted this a few mintues before. BUt I have that chart so I'll keep this post here. ;)
