Lucius, The real early adopters may well be the college professors. I don't disagree that a "mass market" for them is a long way off, just like the "mass market" for digital cameras is still a way off. If BN, as you say, views e-books as "competition", and if Crown, Borders and other hard copy sellers do as well, then where does Yuen turn? Amazon? Does this lead Yuen to subsidize distribution by Amazon, and would not such a move be a drag on the stock. So why did he buy these two in the first place? Does it still make sense. Chaz

I hope I'm not being redundant in mentioning the obvious, but. I'm having a hard time with the opinion of $300 entry being a barrier to e-books. Heck...a typical college student spends more than that in one semester on books. The larger barrier is the Publishers reluctance to let go of their very expensive paper printed books for college. They've always used the excuse that printing costs are high, and ebooks will eliminate that excuse. Also just to add to the post that mentioned computer usage in college. My brother just bought my neice (a freshman) a laptop through their High School...... a $2000 initial investment that will be obsolete in a few years. He says she does everything on it for school. I don't think it was required, but did come with arm twisting, as my brother is too cheap to squander money. BirdDog
