Steven, why is it that you focused only on the 60 year US role in the Philipines but deliberately choose to ignore the HUNDREDS OF YEARS of Spanish influence?

Do you truly believe these events occur just because the US is involved?

The era was different, the attitude towards imperialism and overseas colonies was different, and we only were doing what every other major power was doing. Had it not been the US, it would have been Japan or China. And in fact, in WWII, IT WAS THE JAPANESE WHO CONQUERED THE PHILIPINES.

And you seem to completely overlook the CRUCIAL ROLE the US played in forcing other nations to decolonize after WWI and II... (though we screwed up in bowing to DeGaulle with regard to Indo-China)...

Hey.. we ain't angels.. and we ain't perfect here in the US... But I'll put our attitude towards encouraging democracy up against any other nation in history.

And you aren't going to find any with those Muslim guerillas in Mindanao...

I'll step off my bully pulpit now...

Regards,

Ron
