Thanks- I have been trying to keep up with the the AMD threads here on SI, and the sentiment is a very frustrating one!

With a PE of near 8 on trailing earnings, I just don't get it. I know that the growth of the PC industry will slow and might be doing so - but this initial slowing of the percentage of growth is minor and does not take away from the fact that AMD increased revenue by 2 times and made a good profit (compared to last year's loss.)

Going forward, I have read many conflicting views on the AMD boards here - bottom line seems to be that there will be HIGH growth, but there are a few production numbers and sales prices that are controversial.

One thing that I do believe is that AMD is taking market share from INTC in Europe. And although this could be temporary, it certainly puts AMD in a window of opportunity that they may just get through. If this is the case, then we need to be aware of INTC money turning into AMD money. This may happen soon - INTC revenues are not growing at 100% and AMD revenues just did!

However, as much as I think (logically) the stock should increase dramatically, I know that I am not the one to decide that. Just like I have given up on MOT being undervalued, I may have to do so on AMD.

Have a good weekend.

Paullie

Long time lurker here, also long AMD, and puzzled about its recent performance in the face of so many advances against ITNC. I've been looking for some answers and wonder if the following articles hold some answers. Do you think any of this is significant?

FMR lowers Advanced Micro stake

AMD can't escape Intel's shadow

redherring.com

"A closer look at AMD's numbers revealed a much more disconcerting story for analysts. Top-line revenue numbers for the company fell short, by approximately $10 million. Add in lower average selling prices (ASPs) and an impending inventory overload (a really bad thing for semiconductor companies), and it was enough to prompt Lehman Brothers (NYSE: LEH) and Prudential Securities to lower their target price on the stock and revise earnings estimates downward for 2001. "

Any thoughts?
Thanks,
Laurie
